12th Annual Donor Family Gathering, 2003
Donor families, transplant recipients, hospital personnel, friends and neighbors attended the 12th Annual Donor Family Gathering. The Gathering was held at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. on March 30, 2003. The seventh and newest quilt (third from right) was dedicated while new patches were presented for an eighth quilt. Lori Brigham, WRTC Executive Director, welcomed donor families and hailed their loved ones as heros. Dr. Glibert, Director of Renal Transplantation at Children's National Medical Center, spoke of how a boy who received a transplant grew into a man. Donor family members Raenelle Finney (left) and her mom, Bev Boyer, (right) help others pin new quilt patches to the next quilt. Typically, WRTC has enough patches for a new quilt every two years. Eleven new patches were presented this year. A tissue donor family member looks at the quilts. A young heart valve recipient and his mother look at the quilts. DeWayne and Bev Boyer (left) donated their daughter, Erin's, organs upon her death. NaTasha Driggers (right) recieved Erin's pancreas and kidney.
