For
the donation and transplantation of deceased donor organs, the
most crucial elements is the donor family. WRTC holds a
special allegiance to donor families -- families that help transform
one of life's most intimate events -- death.
WRTC's
Donor Family Advocacy Program provides aftercare to all families
who wish to participate. Each living donor or deceased donor
family is assigned an advocate whom they can contact with questions
after the donation.
Donor
Family Support offers the following services:
Personal
contact with families through letters and telephone calls
as they move through the grieving process.
Free
quarterly bereavement seminars hosted by WRTC cover a different
aspect of grief each time and are facilitated by trained professionals.
The
annual local Donor
Family Gathering, a service dedicated to the memory of
those who have died and given the gift of life in the Washington,
D.C. area. To see

The
Young Widowhood Support Group meets twice a month at WRTC
to help those widows, widowers, fiancées and significant others
under the age of 50 who have been left behind by the sudden death
of a partner.
WRTC's
Donor Family Council made up of donor family members who
advise WRTC on the various issues affecting donor families in
the donation process and grieving.
the
Surgeon General's Certificate of Appreciation
program which WRTC uses to honor donor families.
Communication
services for donor families or living donors who want to
write their recipients are also handled confidentially through
WRTC Donor Family Advocates. |
