Patients awaiting heart and/or lung transplants listen to a presentation by a WRTC recovery coordinator.

WRTC employees (right) check in two guests to the Spring 2003 patient seminar designed to educate area waiting list patients about the organ donation process.

For patients who need a life-saving transplant the wait can seem particularly discouraging.  No one, however, can better spread the message about the importance of organ and tissue donation than those who are waiting for that gift of life.  Transplant patients are encouraged to be strong advocates of donation.  One person they talk to may later save the lives of up to eight people and spare other families the pain that they themselves are going through.

Anyone who would like to schedule presentations at a church, school, place of employment, or community event should contact WRTC for free materials and support.

Patient Seminars are held twice a year to allow patients a venue for asking questions or advice of transplant professionals, organ recovery coordinators, patients who have already received transplants and living donors.  The donation process and allocation procedures are among the items discussed.

Recipients are athletes! Find out about the U.S. Transplant Games scheduled for July 27-August 1, 2004 in Minneapolis.
