The
people who wait for a transplant are not just patients; they are
also church members, students and employees. For this reason, WRTC often
partners with area businesses to offer employee education about organ and
tissue donation.
What can concerned businesses
do to help spread the message to donate life?
Invite
a speaker to talk during employees’ lunch time, during department
or group meetings, or at a special event for the entire office
staff.
Send
a paper, electronic, or voice message promoting donation from
the CEO to each employee.
Make
donation stickers for ID badges available to employees who intend
to be donors.
Write
a newsletter article giving facts on organ and tissue donation
or include a personal interest story written by an employee who
is an organ recipient, a living donor, a member of a deceased
donor’s family or a patient waiting for a transplant.
Distribute
donor cards and educational materials about donation to employees.
through e-mail, inner office memos, printed pay stubs or pay envelopes,
and inserted in pay envelopes.
Implement
a leave policy for employees who donate bone marrow or an organ.
Hold
a special donor sign up during April: Donate Life Month.
Some companies create competitions among departments or field
offices.
Have
an information booth on organ and tissue donation at your company
health fairs.
Place
posters and flyers on bulletin boards.
Run
a public service announcement or include an electronic banner
on your in-house e-mail system. Make your own or acquire one from
WRTC or the Coalition on Donation.
WRTC will gladly supply speakers, literature and
counsel on arranging any of the above activities. Please call 703/641-0100
or
e-mail us.
